As prices for 50s and 60s Strats soar into the unattainable for most of us, it would appear that the smart money is investing in Japanese JV Series Strats manufactured between 1982-1986. Riffers (UK) are proud to advertise for sale, a fine example of the exceedingly rare Japanese Vintage (JV) series Fender ’62 Stratocaster with Serial Nº JV48207. Very accurate to vintage spec and sold only within Japan, these models are renown for their high quality craftsmanship using great wood, their epic tones, a slick feel and smooth playability.

This guitar is a well-kept example. The nitro lacquer black finish has some checking (notably to the rear), slight surface scratches throughout and all the knocks, scuffs and dings commensurate with a well love guitar of this age. The bridge base, tuners, jack cup, and JV stamped neck plate all give off a nice shine. The rosewood fingerboard shows some light, sporadic wear, while the profile is clean with a smooth ambered nitro gloss. Some of the varnish has faded in places (notably F# position near lower E). There is some wear to the first three frets. Somehow both the 65 sticker and the ‘Pickups Made in USA decal have remained after all these years. The original tuners show light patina and turn smoothly. Two small extra holes for the rear tremolo backplate appear alongside the original holes. All of the electronics work as intended. The Fullerton Black Bobbin Pickups sound absolutely fantastic. No scratchy pots or input jack issues. Photos of pickups, routing (unmodified), under the neck etc. are available upon request. We haven’t posted them because… well, how would you like it if we posted photos of your innards on the net?
